This interesting fungi was found by my spouse in a pot of flowers this morning. He remarked how quickly this appeared seemingly out of no where. It is strangely beautiful but, very deadly. I appreciate the simple shape and its interesting texture and color. Placed atop a red background it really shines.
This little natural wonder got me to thinking about the poisons we encounter in our daily lives. Some of them are obvious, others not so much. How many of our ancestors died eating these to figure out that they were not to be consumed. It may look innocent enough at first glance but, you let just a small amount of it into your body and bam, you eventually die. How quickly the poisons can take over. So, it is with all poisons whether they be physical in the form of another person, our psychological, ideological or emotional toxins. It is important to recognize these before they have a chance to do us any harm. Sometimes they are disguised in a pretty package or beautiful words. But, when we look deeper we see the truth behind the veil.
It is another one of those delicate balance dances, to learn to recognize the truth or realness of something without developing a hard uncaring attitude towards the world. Perhaps that is the wisdom we learn as grow older. We know from experience what to look for in life that serves us well. That is my hope anyway.
Have a pleasant start to your week.
Mushrooms can be so dangerous. There was a lady who cooked some soup for and elderly people's home in my local town and thought nothing of picking some mushrooms and throwing them in the soup. Of the twelve people eating that lunch nine died and the others were left with serious liver damage. It appears some people never learn. Very sad.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's terrible. I hope she was brought to justice for that. She should have known better.
ReplyDeleteShe got off light as she really didn't know.
